O blog ficou fora por, aproximadamente, 2 horas. O bicho pegou lá na Dreamhost, mas pela magnitude dos problemas até que 2 horas foi um ótimo tempo.
A Dreamhost oferece um feed informando os problemas de serviço e a resolução dos mesmos. Assim você não fica desinformado e paranóico abrindo tickets ? tôa. Ontem ví o ticket “The problems are worse..” que anunciava problemas:
It seems like the problems are more widespread with our network than just our internal stuff.
We’re actively working on it, and apologize for any possible downtime this may be causing customer services.
We will update here as soon as we know more!

Duas horas mais tarde a resolução do problema:
Network problems resolved.
Today’s network problems were caused by not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 4 separate issues.
First, one of our older distribution switches decided to give up on life.
After replacing it with newer hardware, everything ran just fine for a couple hours. Then, it decided our network topology had changed (apparently due to a different default configuration since the old days when it was deployed), and started dropping a good percentage of traffic.
This issue also affected another switch that some of our file servers plug into, so customer data was unavailable to a good portion of our hosting servers.
Consequently, one of our more active mail servers tried to dump all of the backed up email all at once, saturating some of the network that it’s on.
Once these configuration issues were resolved, one of the network interface cards in our main firewall machine died, requiring a quick swap.
We’re still working on some of the after-effects, and there may be some slowness while things get caught up, but everything should be back to normal later tonight.

Duas horas fora do ar pode representar prejuízos para seu site se você vender on-line, para isso recomendo serviços de hospedagem nacionais como a Porto Fácil mas caso queira um Blog ou portfolio a Dreamhost tem um ótimo custo/benefício. Fora as dezenas de instalações com um clique, wordpress é um exemplo.

Hummm… os dois posts em seguida, você está insinuando que o Submarino está hospedado no Dreamhost? 🙂
Agora sério: acontece. Outro dia fiquei fora do ar, o Bluehost sofreu um blackout, os geradores aguentaram até onde deu mas o diesel acabou. Quando voltou, o Red Hat de várias máquinas deu problema, tiveram que recuperar backup, maior trabalheira.
No geral, entretanto, o serviço desses provedores grandes são impecáveis.
É, foi só eu falar do Submarino e também fiquei fora. O único problema que citam é a performance por ser gringo… Mas pela estrutura de hardware e software das gigantes isso passa despercebido.
Putz, diesel, quanto tempo fora do ar? Eu ficaria reabastecendo até voltar a energia… Hahaha
Mais de 6 horas. Essa coisa da performance por ser lá fora já foi problema, hoje em dia não faz a menor diferença. Muito site com.br que ninguém imagina é hospedado lá fora.
